The Children of Slapton Pre-Preparatory school

Our curriculum is firmly based on Literacy and Numeracy and all the other curriculum subjects are linked into these foundation subjects. In addition to Literacy and Numeracy, all children are taught:

  • history
  • geography
  • science
  • music
  • art
  • Information Technology
  • RE
  • French
  • PE and Games
  • swimming

Our classes are small, being no larger than 12 children in each year group. In the class containing the youngest children there is always an experienced classroom assistant bringing the ratio of staff to child to 1 to 6.

Our curriculum is enriched, wherever possible, by visits and outings. We are very lucky to have a beautiful church with medieval wall paintings at the top of the lane and a busy, working, mixed farm next to it. These are just a couple of the places we can visit regularly to aid our teaching of environmental issues, history and geography. We also travel further afield whenever we can, to make the curriculum as interesting as possible and invite other specialists into school to bring their skills to the children.

We are able to offer diagnostic testing for possible difficulties, such as dyslexia, and then take remedial action quickly and effectively.

  • All children read daily
  • Private piano/recorder lessons available
  • Specialized teachers for Music, Games, IT and French
  • Internal tests for older children to prepare them for later school life
  • Only occasional homework, for the older children
